Holiday Skin Prep: When Should You Schedule Your Favorite Treatments?

Elizabeth Pete and Barbara Marshall of Firm Med Spa in Tulsa featured in a holiday skin prep guide covering Botox, fillers, facials and microneedling.

The holidays always seem far away until suddenly the calendar is full of family gatherings, parties, photographs and everything else that comes with the season.

If you’ve been thinking about refreshing your skin before the holidays, October is a great time to start planning.

One thing we remind our clients at Firm Medical Spa in Tulsa is that not every treatment delivers results on the same timeline. Some offer a quick refresh, while others need several weeks or even months for the full benefits to develop.

Here’s what to know before booking your holiday appointments.

Botox, Dysport and Xeomin: Plan Ahead

If smoother expression lines are on your holiday wish list, timing matters.

Neuromodulators like Botox, Dysport and Xeomin work by temporarily relaxing targeted facial muscles. You may begin noticing changes within several days, but results continue developing after that.

We generally recommend scheduling your appointment at least two weeks before an important event, preferably with a little extra time built in.

The goal is to give your treatment time to settle so you can enjoy your holiday plans without wondering when your results will appear.

Dermal Filler: Give Yourself Some Breathing Room

Dermal fillers can help restore volume, soften certain facial lines and enhance features such as the lips and cheeks.

While many fillers provide an immediate change, temporary swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur afterward.

For an upcoming event, planning your appointment at least two to four weeks ahead is a sensible approach. This gives your provider time to assess your results after the initial swelling has subsided.

And remember, more isn’t always better. Thoughtful placement and a personalized approach make all the difference.

Microneedling: Start Earlier for Collagen Benefits

Microneedling is one of our favorite treatments for addressing uneven texture, fine lines and the appearance of certain acne scars.

Unlike treatments that provide an immediate cosmetic change, microneedling encourages your skin’s natural collagen production.

You may notice improvements within a few weeks, but collagen remodeling continues over the following months. Depending on your skin concerns, a series of treatments may be recommended.

If microneedling is on your list, getting started in October allows more time for those gradual improvements before the holiday season.

Tixel: Think Beyond a Single Event

Tixel is another option for clients interested in improving skin texture, fine lines and overall skin quality.

Because results develop as the skin responds to treatment, Tixel isn’t something we’d suggest scheduling at the last minute before a major event.

The amount of recovery time and number of sessions needed vary depending on your skin and treatment plan.

Starting the conversation early gives us an opportunity to determine the best approach for your goals.

Chemical Peels: Timing Depends on the Peel

Chemical peels can help improve the appearance of dullness, uneven skin tone and rough texture.

But not all peels are alike.

Some lighter peels involve minimal visible peeling, while stronger treatments can require a longer recovery period. Certain skin concerns also respond best to a series rather than a single treatment.

Your skin’s condition, treatment history and upcoming plans all play a role in choosing the right peel.

The important thing is allowing enough time for your skin to recover before your event.

Facials: A Little Refresh Goes a Long Way

Not everyone needs an intensive treatment before the holidays.

Sometimes a customized facial is exactly what your skin needs, especially after months of Oklahoma sunshine, heat and changing weather.

Facials can address concerns like dehydration, congestion and dullness while giving your skin some extra attention.

If your goal is simply to feel refreshed before a gathering, a gentle facial may be a great option. We can help determine the best timing based on the treatment and your skin’s sensitivity.

Your Holiday Skin Plan Starts Here

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to skincare, and there shouldn’t be.

Some clients want to soften expression lines. Others are interested in improving texture, restoring volume or simply maintaining healthy, comfortable skin.

At Firm Medical Spa in Tulsa, we believe the best treatment plan starts with understanding your skin, your goals and your schedule.

You don’t need to do everything. You just need a plan that makes sense for you.
