What Not to Do After Botox
Botox has become a go-to treatment for those seeking a refreshed, youthful appearance. At Firm Medical Spa, we’ve seen firsthand how this safe and effective treatment can help our clients feel more confident in their skin. However, Botox is not just about the treatment itself; the aftercare is just as important to ensure the best results. While our expert team will provide you with detailed post-treatment instructions, it’s essential to know what not to do after Botox. Here are some key things to avoid in the hours and days following your treatment.
1. Don’t Touch Your Face
It may be tempting to massage or rub the treated areas, but resist the urge! Touching your face can disturb the Botox placement and even increase the risk of infection. For the first 24 hours, hands off your face (and avoid applying heavy skincare products to the treated areas).
2. Avoid Intense Physical Activity
We know how much our clients value their fitness routines, but it’s best to skip the gym or high-intensity exercise for 24 hours after Botox. Elevated blood flow from strenuous activity could cause the Botox to migrate to unintended areas, potentially impacting your results.
3. Don’t Lie Down for at Least 4 Hours
Lying down immediately after Botox can increase the likelihood of the product spreading to surrounding areas, causing unintended muscle impact. Stay upright for at least four hours post-treatment to help the Botox settle in the intended areas.
4. No Alcohol Before or After Treatment
Drinking alcohol before or immediately after Botox can increase the risk of bruising due to its blood-thinning properties. To minimize the chances of bruising, skip the wine or cocktails for at least 24 hours before and after your appointment.
5. Avoid Heat and Direct Sunlight
For the first few days post-treatment, avoid activities that expose you to heat and direct sunlight, such as saunas, hot yoga, or tanning beds. Heat can impact how the Botox settles and may increase redness or irritation at the injection sites.
6. Skip Skincare Treatments for 24–48 Hours
While we love a good facial as much as our clients do, it’s best to avoid facials, chemical peels, or exfoliating products for a couple of days post-Botox. These treatments can potentially disrupt the Botox or irritate the treatment areas.
7. Don’t Panic About Minor Bruising
If you notice a little bruising or swelling, don’t stress! This is completely normal and should subside within a few days. Contact us if you have any concerns or if the symptoms persist longer than expected.
